Why I’m Participating in Darkness to Daylight...
Simply put: I am haunted by this issue. I have resolve.
And in more length: I want to be apart of the conversation, however it is demoralising and quite frankly, terrifying. With courage, I will take each step in Darkness to Daylight in alliance with survivors of domestic violence, and with those whom are still unfortunately living in it. Every step is with intent to raise my voice for those affected by domestic and family violence. As I have learned silence is the typical and talking in this space is an exceptionally challenging thing to do!
For a resolution, we need to talk. Conversation instigates change. Challenges such as this increase awareness of such a tragic issue that is occurring at staggering rates here in Australia, and internationally, and frequently swept to the side due to the uncomfortability of the discussion.
EVERYONE deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported - especially in their own home. Home is such a special place and deserves to be our safest and most comfortable space where vulnerability is a breeze. Without this, we can not thrive.
By committing to be a part of this challenge, I’m rising in solidarity with survivors and honouring the lives that have been so unnecessarily lost or spirits stolen. Each stride I take represents the strength and resilience it takes to be a survivor and the fight for a better future for my daughter and all future generations.
