Three weeks down, 1 week to go | 232kms & $682 so far!

This week has been a low km week for me as I recover from the half marathon on the weekend, but it hasn't stopped me from continuing to spread the awareness across my network and raise a few more dollars.

I was fortunate to be able to take a recent Hype Performance and Health boot camp where I programmed with workout with stats on DVF so I could raise awareness while explaining the workout, and as a bonus the lovely team donated money to this great cause.

I plan to finish out the last week with over 300km (a combination of run and walk) with over 110km of them running.

I'm calling on you to help me raise a few more dollars and keep sharing the message so that our kids and our grandkids can live in a world without domestic and family violence.

One week down... thanks so much for your support so far!

Its been a busy week, 86km ran or walked and over $500 in donations!  I'm super proud of what I've achieved this week with the support of you guys :)  A special thanks to my sponsors so far!!

I knew I needed to have a bit of a distance buffer as I head into tapper week for a half marathon next weekend so my next week of kms will be a bit lower.  Having said that, achieving the 110km for me is not the challenge (maybe I need some incentive to up the km bar?!? - set me a challenge and make a donation and I'll aim for it!), but raising awareness and much needed funds is a more difficult task.

In domestic and family violence (DFV) situations everyone needs help - the person using violence or other ongoing patterns of behaviour aimed to control a person, the person/s on the receiving end of this behaviour, and the family/friends surrounding these situations, especially any children and young people involved.

Remember, DFV is not just physical abuse, but so much more (source: QLD Govt):
* emotional
* verbal
* stalking and harassment
* financial abuse (not giving you enough money to survive, or forcing you to hand over your money)
* social (not letting you see friends or family, isolating you from people you care about)
* spiritual
* sexual abuse
* depriving you of necessities of life

If you recognise these behaviours within yourself, or you're experiencing them, reach out and seek help before things escalate.  There's so much help out there.

Kemp Hill walk

I took a hike up Kemp Hill with my children and their friends. Wonderful views and beautiful company helped me to tick off a few more kms....

At one point, I heard my daughters friend mention how a boy was deleting all these messages he had sent her. It sure was eye opening and very sad to hear the sorts of things she had received.  Her way of dealing with it showed resilience and she seems unfazed, but it got me thinking and certainly made me concerned to think young teenagers are already displaying such appalling bullying behaviour and where does that lead in their future lives as men.

It reforced my why for doing this challenge - we need to raise awareness of domestic and family violence, including the emotional abuse side of things particularly in our young people as they are the future......

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page for the Darkness to Daylight Challenge!

Every 1km in the 110km challenge represents on average a woman, child or man's life lost to Domestic and Family Violence. Together we are running 110km in October to bring Domestic and Family Violence out of the Darkness and into the Daylight.

With your support we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by Domestic and Family Violence, and help end the cycle of violence.
